Summer Ball 2024

This year’s Summer Ball, held on Friday September 6th, took place at the Fylde Rugby Club and was attended by over 100 people.  A glass of Prosecco on arrival set the mood, followed by a 3-course meal and dancing to the fabulous music of The Versions.  Everyone was in good spirits (!) and, after 2 very important awards, plenty of energetic dancing took place until late evening.

The Most Improved Player was awarded to Debbie Hird and Paul Noblett was deservedly awarded the Member of the Year plaque.

Singles Winter League

For the Winter of 2024/25 the club will be running monthly box leagues for singles play in lieu of the Winter Singles Ladder.

Box Leagues are very popular in squash clubs for providing internal competitive play, and encouraging matches to be completed.

We are hoping to have initially 3 leagues running and they will be open to all adults and all juniors who are capable of playing for the senior teams.

Matches are to be played using LTA “Fast 4” scoring, best of 3 sets i.e. first to 2 sets wins.

Sets are played using normal tennis scoring but to 4 games only, first to 4 games wins the set.

If a set gets to 3 games all, then a tie break is played to five points, first to 5 points wins the set [by any margin].

Re-spin a racket for the first serve of the tie break.

[Normal] Service lets are to be played if the ball catches the net chord [slight departure from true Fast 4].

Fast 4 is intended to enable match completion within an hour including a suitable warm up.

Notify Ed Sawer or Jack Jackson if you intend to participate, ideally before 12th October 2024 to enter the October period league.  Contact numbers can be found in the Members’ Area of the Website.

Fashion Show October 24th

London Fashion week was held in September but no worries, we’re holding our own catwalk celebration with Coco 1 of Lytham on the 24th October at the tennis Club, doors open at 7pm.

Tickets are £10 and will include a glass of Prosecco. We are also holding a raffle in support of Helping Hearts. Tickets available from Coco 1 (next to the County) from Terry’s Bar or contact the social committee.

Put your glad rags on and come and join in the fun.

Pimms Afternoon 2024

Another fabulous event with some great tennis by the 40 players who entered last Friday.  The weather was kind to us too!  The winning lady was Anne-Marie Rotheram with the men’s being shared by James Dallow and Paul (apologies – surname unknown).

An amazing spread of sandwiches and fruit was laid on post-play, washed down nicely with a refreshing Pimms (or two!!).

Thanks to everyone who made this such a special afternoon plus a shout out to Sandra for her preserves and chutneys which raised over £150 for The Big Food Project and Helping Hearts Fylde.  The book sale raised a further £25 for Helping Hearts Fylde and the raffle and clothes sale raised a whopping £211 which will enable Alison & Sara to pay for an extra suitcase to take donations to Feeding Dreams Cambodia in November.
