Opening Day 2025
10 June 2025One of the highlights of our club’s year, the opening of the summer grass season was held on Sunday 27 April 2025 – and what a day it was! We were blessed with glorious weather, the grass courts were in fine shape and members old and new turned out to celebrate.
The day started off with an American Tournament, allowing everyone to mix in and play with new people. This was so popular that all 12 courts were in use, with 48 people taking part. Games were hotly contested through 4 rounds and everything ran smoothly under the direction of our Lady Captain, Pam Creelman.
The winners of the tournament were Alison Beeby and Oliver Knowles who were presented with the Tony Fairburn cup.
As is customary, the winners of the trophies for the winter competitions were also announced;
Avril Ruby O’Donnell Trophy Ladies Doubles – Sally Cottam and Ann Holt
Avril Ruby O’Donnell Trophy Men’s Doubles – Alex Potocki and Paul Higgins
The Michael Waite Memorial Trophy Gentleman Winner – Marcus Ogden
The Michael Waite Memorial Trophy Ladies Winner – Suzanne Holroyd
A new competition this year was for mixed doubles, which was won by Mel Giddings and Colin Forrest.
The open day was rounded off with a fabulous afternoon tea provided by our caterers Morris Gabereau.
