Winter Ladder

Every year, towards the end of September, we invite all playing members to take part in the Winter Ladders.

There are currently 5 ladders available to join:

  1. Mixed doubles
  2. Men’s doubles
  3. Ladies’ doubles
  4. Men’s singles
  5. Ladies’ singles

Playing in one or more ladders is a good way to keep your tennis going throughout the winter months.

Winter Ladder Format

All matches will be best of 15 games.

Players will be able to move up a ladder by challenging higher ranked players and winning the match, in which case they move immediately above them in the rankings. If they lose, then both sets of players simply stay where they are. Players can challenge players a maximum of 4 places above.

However, if you’re not worried where you end up on the ladder at the end of the winter and just want a few games of tennis over the Winter, you can choose to play any players below you in addition to the players a maximum of 4 places above.

Trophies

There are trophies for the winners of the ladders which are awarded at the Open Day in April.

Court Usage

The Committee has agreed that players participating in the Winter League can put 2 coins in for lights which will enable one hour of play.

If after one hour, there are no other players waiting for a court then play can continue. No restrictions exist for playing in daylight hours.

Matches involving day time members will need to be played on weekdays and be completed by 6pm.

Entry

For the doubles ladders, you can enter with a partner of your choice but, if you don’t have a partner, you can enter and you will be paired with someone.

If you would like to be part of any of the ladders, please message Suzanne Holroyd (07729 942019) to let her know which ladder(s) you would like to play in and the name of your partner if you’re entering as a pair.
